Human being and power (Approach to an encyclopedia of power instinct)

Abstract

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 – 1900) was the first one who focused on the ‘will to power’ in his posthumous work „Der Wille zur Macht“ (1886) and thus introduced this topic into depth psychology. Sigmund Freud (1856 – 1939) has dedicated all his life only to one topic: research of sexual drive. Thus, he opened the door to a new sight on human being and founded psychoanalysis. One of his most famous papers is ‘Drei Abhandlungen zur Sexualtheorie’ (Wien, 1905). However, later Freud assumed the existence of a second instinct, the so called ‘Todestrieb’ (death instinct). I strictly deny the existence of this instinct. Furthermore, I deny the existence of sexuality in early childhood, what assumption is used by Freud as the foundation for all of his theories. Modestly, I want to combine these theories both by showing the striking similarities between sexual drive and power instinct. Both instincts are controlling human behavior in a very different way, but almost 99 percent of all behavior can be interpreted and shown to be motivated by these two basic instincts, even when they appear to be irrational or inconceivable. This thesis is only an assumption, as depth psychological theories can neither be proofed or rejected by experiment, genetic, nor neurological research. In this sense, it is not a scientific paper.
